Monday Nokia announced a partnership with Yahoo which will see Nokia become the exclusive worldwide provider of maps and navigation services from Yahoo and will fall under the branding of “powered by Ovi.”
According to an article over on ZDnet by David Meyer, Yahoo will also power Nokia Ovi Chat and Mail with Yahoo Messenger and Mail products.
Nokia and Yahoo say that as part of the partnership they plan on working on ID federation between their services, the first results of which will enable users to log into Yahoo services by using their Ovi ID.
Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, CEO for Nokia in a statement has said that the alliance is intended to span online and mobile markets and to enable Yahoo customers in such areas as North America “discover the unique capabilities that Ovi Maps brings.”
Nokia and Yahoo have said that some of the co-branded services should be available sometime in the 2nd half of this year and the rest of the world will be targeted during 2011.
