iPhone OS was Originally Tablet OS Says Jobs

Well this is a turn up for the books; apparently you know that little iPhone you’ve been playing around with for the last couple of years, well its operating system was originally meant for a tablet, so it would appear that Apple was originally working on the iPad or a similar tablet.

According to an article over on Engadget by Laura June, the Apple chief was having a talk during the All Things D conference, with Walt Mossberg and Kara Switcher, and Mossberg asked Steve Jobs why Apple had put the iPhone OS onto a smartphone rather than a tablet.

The iPhone Guru replied with “I’ll tell you a secret. It began with the tablet.” Apparently Apple was working a tablet operating system when Mr Jobs had a brilliant idea, “My God, I said, this would make a great phone…so we shelved the tablet and built the iPhone.”

And as they say, the rest is history. So in a way the iPad was originally the main idea with Apple, but that iPhone got in the way for a few years, aren’t you glad it did though?
