Well, well for once it looks like the iPhone isn’t the first platform to gain a latest update, we when it comes to Layer 3.5 anyway, as apparently Layer 3.5 has been released to Android before the iPhone.
According to an article by Kat Hannaford over on Gizmodo by way of Layer, the Layer 3.5 update features the new “stream” feature that delivers augmented reality info based on where you’re at without any search entry required.
Apparently to save time with localised queries the Layer 3.5 ‘stream’ setting comes up first when you open the reality browser, and if you’re not after any of the info ‘stream’ offers you then you can enter a specific search term.
According to the CEO of Layer, Raimo van der Klein, “Augmented Reality is starting to behave like a true mass medium. It is becoming scalable with the introduction of its own discovery mechanism. We know that real-time location-based content discovery drives frequent re-use of the Layar browser.”
Layer 3.5 for Android is available as of right now, and a version for the iPhone is expected to come quite soon says Layer.
