iPhone OS Popular than Android but BlackBerry Beats All
Apparently according to the latest number from the Neilsen Company, the iPhone OS is more popular than Android OS, actually 3x more popular according to the figures, and with iPhone OS 4.0 expected today at WWDC 2010 that gap could well widen.
According to an article over on the Inquirer by David Neal, the Neilsen data says 23% of mobile phone users own a smartphone which is up some 7% on Q2 of last year at 16%. The senior manager for telecom practice at Neilson, Don Kellogg has stated that both operating systems have seen growth in market share by about 2% in the last few months.
Apparently it was also found that Android smartphones and the iPhone are more popular with young men with a gender split on Android of 54 to 46% while on the iPhone it’s 55 t 45%. Furthermore Kellogg stated that iPhone users are more likely to be “richer and better educated” than Android users.
Well, is that so, well I happen to be an Android users and I can tell you that the “richer” part may be true, but the “well educated” part is somewhat of an insult to Android users as a whole.
Anyway, although the iPhone OS is 3x more popular than the Android OS, it still isn’t the most popular as that title goes straight to Research In Motion’s BlackBerry with 34% market share as opposed to the iPhone’s 28%, Windows Mobile’s 19% and Android’s 9%.
