HTC Droid Eris Being Retired by Verizon?
The HTC Droid Eris smartphone, it’s not that old is it? Surely the device hasn’t been around so long it has come to the end of its usefulness, but apparently the Big Red is not of the same opinion even though the HTC Droid Eris has recently received an upgrade to Android 2.1.
The word according to Chris Ziegler over at Engadget is that Verizon Wireless seems to be retiring the HTC Droid Eris and will no longer be available via their online store, so one could presume the Big Red won’t be replenishing any stock.
No doubt HTC Droid Eris inventory will dwindle from Verizon shelves even though the device may have done well as a $50+ on contract device, but the reason could be that Verizon is looking to keep the Android platform as their high end offering for now.
And well the HTC Droid Eris probably won’t be missed too much considering the Big Red has a couple of new Droid devices lined up such as the Motorola Droid 2 and Motorola Droid X.

The Eris is not dead! A compact android with 2.1 software is a desirable phone. I personally own (3) three HTC
Eris phones and the flexible format is just as effective as my Motorola Droid as well as the HTC Incrediible
I see upgrades keeping the Eris alive for the near and present future.
The htc droid eris is by far the worst purchase I have ever made. When its battery is not overheating, the web browser fails and it seems like there is no connection to the outside world. The damn phone freezes when you least want and need it to. Bottom line… this phone makes the verizon name brand look like s*#t! Completley unsatisfied.. If I buy another htc product itll be a cold day in hell.
John N. I am so in agreement with you!
@John Nobody
I'd venture a guess that you got a lemon as I've had my Eris for many months and it runs like a dream. Great little phone, fits nicely in a pocket or belt clip. Shame it's being retired.
Retired? Boy, what a short life! I got mine in early February and it works fine. I'm not such a techie that I feel the need for the "latest and greatest" every time something new hits the street. However, I will be taking a look at options on the one-year anniversary.
The Eris is piece of digital crap. I experienced the same problems as John Nobody, the phone overheats, it freezes up daily, the applications are extremely slow. I have exchanged 4 eris phone through verizon and each one gave me the same problems. Retired? I say good ridden. eradicate .
Love everything about Android and the phone except the phone. I'm on my 2nd one and it is totally CRAP!!! I basically can't even use the phone functions. It overheats on the regular, it freezes all day long, it takes forever for a call to go through. I don't get any indication that the call is going through so I try again and in the midst of finally getting through the other call goes through.
