Apparently Sprint and HTC have placed a hold on an over the air, update for the HTC EVO 4G smartphone due to some of the handsets being bricked by the update. Apparently the vast majority of users successful downloaded and installed the software update but some are experiencing issues.
According to an article over on Intomobile by Marin, they contacted Sprint who replied that they have received a handful of reports that some customers are having problems and thus have placed a temporary halt on distribution of the software until they can investigate the situation further.
Marin cites a couple of readers, who posted, “During the update my EVO just turned itself off. The status light is not even on while it was plugged into the charger. I tried turning it back on but it will not respond. I even reseated the battery, left the battery out for an hour and remove the SD but the phone is still dead,” said reader Ollitsac.
Although apparently some have said that leaving the EVO 4G alone when it turns off results in a successful update; reader Scott says “phone turned off and seemed unresponsive but avoided my temptations and left it alone. A few minutes later it started up like normal and said ‘update successful.”
So have any of our readers tried to update their HTC EVO 4G and experience any problems? Has your EVO 4G bricked or did you accomplish the update successfully, drop us a comment and let us know.
