I realise many want the new iPhone 4 and some are disappointed with having to wait, but just how desperate are you to own the new tech from the Apple tree, would you shell out over $3000 to gain the device?

According to an article by Lorraine Luk over on the Wall Street Journal, some iPhone fanatics in Hong Kong simply couldn’t wait any longer for the iPhone 4, and in some cases paid over the odds for the device on the grey market.

Apparently Lo Lau owns a mobile phone store in the Hong Kong neighbourhood of Mongkok which is known for offering grey market devices including unlocked iPhone handsets.

According to Lau, “We bought about 30 iPhone 4 handsets from the United Kingdom and the U.S., and they were sold out quickly within a few hours. Many enthusiastic buyers have made pre-orders, awaiting our shipment of more gray-market iPhone 4s in the coming few days, and half of them are mainland Chinese visitors.”

Price wise the US locked version of the iPhone 4 is selling on the grey market for between $1135 and $1394; however if you want an unlocked UK version of the iPhone 4 you can expect to start off at $2168 and even go as high as $3096.

So just how bad do you want a new iPhone 4? Bad enough to hand over in excess of three grand for all that antenna reception problem woes?
