Really you can’t blame Microsoft for throwing the Microsoft KIN phones into the mobile grave if the sales figure being touted round is true that Microsoft only managed to sell just 503 of the KIN devices.
According to an article over on the Boy Genius Report’s Andrew Munchbach, John Gruber of Daring Fireball, has a “well placed” source that says Microsoft only shifted 503 KIN devices before assigning the handsets to the mobile grave on the 30th of June.
There have been rumours that the KIN handsets didn’t do well with figures of around the 500 mark being quoted while some said it was between 1,000 and 10, 000. But wherever the figure one thing is for sure, it wasn’t anywhere near enough to keep the devices in the mobile phone space and thus the devices are dead.
Apparently an employee of Microsoft spoke to Business Insider on the matter of the Microsoft KINs and said… “We had a huge launch party on campus and I bet that party cost more than the amount of revenues we took in on the product. As an employee, I am embarrassed. As a shareholder, I am pissed. It’s one thing to incubate products and bring them to a proof-of-concept to see what works, but it’s something else to launch. I suspect we launched because we felt like we HAD to so we could save face because we were trying to build buzz, but overall — huge fail.”
