Yes we all know any Apple iPhone fan will shout out that the App Store has more applications than anyone else but Android is catching up and the word is that the Android market is about to hit that important milestone of 100,000 available applications.
According to an article over on Electronista by way of Android Guys, at its current rate the Android Market should reach 100,000 total applications by the end of July and according to AndroLib the rate of growth is high enough for them to estimate in June alone over 15,000 Android apps were added.
However, the figures have not been confirmed by Google as usually formal counts of apps are conservative and come along with handset launches. The first major spike in Android apps came with the launch of the Motorola Droid.
The most recent increase in app came with the launch of the HTC Droid Incredible and with Google handing out free HTC EVO 4G handsets to developers during Google I/O this may have contributed to Android apps growth.
If said Android app figures are correct it places Android closer to Apple in the app stakes as the last known official count from Apple puts their apps at 225,000, but that growth rate may well slow
