Apple and their iPhone have been struggling to break the market in China with many Chinese opting to go with the grey market for the iPhone 4. However a new version of the iPhone supporting WiFi may just be heading to China in the near future.
According to an article over on the Wall Street journal by Owen Fletcher, according to the Telecommunication Equipment certification Centre website, the new version of the iconic iPhone sporting WiFi capability has been given a Chinese network access license meaning the handset could see its debut in China soon.
Sales of the WiFi-less iPhone being offered by China Unicom saw a slow start to sales, and a new WiFi enabled iPhone could potentially be more attractive to Chinese customers.
Thus far Apple has not announced the launch of a WiFi enabled iPhone in China however handsets that gain the licence usually start selling not long after, although the iPhone image on the regulator’s website looks to be an iPhone 3G or 3GS and not the new iPhone 4.
