During that Apple press conference on Friday, Steve Jobs said the iPhone 4 will be unveiled in 17 countries with the exception of Korea. Included in the 17 country roll out are Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, Italy and Austria, but Korea has to wait because according to Steve Jobs, the Korean government hasn’t approved the iPhone 4.
However according to an article over on Chosun, Steve Jobs is telling porkies as apparently Apple hasn’t even applied for approval of their iPhone 4 for Korea, and the Korean Communications Commission issued a fast response denying the responsibility.
The Korean Communications Commission also stated that the Radio Research Agency has not received any application from Apple “to test the electromagnetic frequency levels of the iPhone 4.”
Thus it would appear that the delay in unveiling the Apple iPhone 4 is fully down to Apple and not the Korean government. The distributor, KT has also posted the full text of their correspondence with Apple, with Apple admitting “that a delay in its preparation is behind the two-month postponement.”
