It appears that us Brits simply love Android based smartphones as Android looks to be taking the dominant role in the UK mobile market as market research company GfK RT released a report on Monday.
According to a Kelly Hodgkins article over on the Boy Genius Report, GfK RT figures for June shows smartphones are steadily growing in the United Kingdom and make up 73.5 percent of the UK contract market, which is up 55 percent in Q1 2010.
Apparently the Android platform is exploding across the United Kingdom growing in excess of 350 percent from just 3 percent of the contract market in the first quarter of 2010 to 13.5 percent market share in the second quarter of 2010.
I’m not too sure how well that stands up against the UK iPhone, but it does show that Android is grabbing a big place in the UK smartphone business, and no doubt will continue to do so as more Android devices appear such as the Samsung Galaxy S.
