BlackBerry Ban Begins and Stops in Saudi Arabia

For several months now Saudi Arabia has been threatening Canadian BlackBerry maker Research In Motion with a ban of BlackBerry messaging, well apparently Saudi Arabia did finally begin the ban which apparently wasn’t for long and was lifted 4 hours after.

According to an article over on i4u by Jordan Cressman, Saudi Arabia officials are denying any speculation that an agreement has been reached with RIM, and according to Ben Thompson, a reporter for the BBC, “If RIM did grant Saudi Arabia access to its security codes, other countries in the region will now expect the same.”

The BlackBerry ban has been threatened due to BlackBerry smartphones using special encrypting software which stops governments from snooping on BlackBerry owner’s communications.

So as of now the BlackBerry service is now back in action but no doubt if RIM and the arguing countries can’t come to some compromise then more Blackberry outages in those countries just may follow.
