As you may be aware, BlackBerry maker Research In Motion has been having somewhat of a hard time with their BlackBerry smartphones over in the Middle east, with many countries threatening to ban the smartphones.
Well according to an article by Andrew Munchbach of the BGR, and by way of a Bloomberg article, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Research In Motion are getting near an agreement, meaning Saudi Arabia is allowing the Canadian smartphone maker to continue delivering BlackBerry messaging services and hasn’t offered another deadline for compliance.
According to the Bloomberg article…” The Communications and Information Technology Commission, the country’s telecommunication regulator, has said it wants a system in place that will allow it to monitor BlackBerry communications in order to prevent terrorism and ensure national security. The report says that Saudi Telecom Co. and the two other major wireless carriers are all testing systems that would “avert a threatened suspension of the messaging service.”
So it would appear that RIM and the Saudi Arabia government may be close to finalising a deal that will allow BlackBerry to remain, of course things could easily chance again in a couple of days.
