If you are heading China way sometime in the future with your iPhone the new Pleco Chinese Dictionary for iPhone app which it is hoped will be released sometime in September will utilize the iPhone camera as a translation device and we have a video demo of such for your viewing pleasure below.
The video comes our way courtesy of the guys over at the Daily iPhone Blog and lasts almost a minute and a quarter, and the new feature called “Camera Recogniser feature” in the updated version of Pleco Chinese Dictionary for iPhone will enable the user to look up words instantly by pointing their iPhone camera at the words.
Apparently this works best on the new iPhone 4 but should also work with the iPhone 3GS as long as the device is running iOS 4, and the commenter says basically it’s a really quick way to get characters from a printed page into your iPhone.
The new version will be Pleco Chinese Dictionary for iPhone 2.2, so if you are interested, then head on down, check out the video and then grab the new version of the iPhone app when it gets released…enjoy.
