Nine suspects in the United Kingdom have been arrested by City of London police that are suspected of being involved in a fraudulent scam worth millions of pounds and involving a thousand of Apple iPhone handsets.
According to a report on Apple Insider by Josh Ong, The Daily Telegraph reports that on Wednesday a series of police raids led to the seizure of 1000 iPhone handsets, SIM cards, fake passports, cash and stolen bank cards.
The 9 arrests include people ages from 18 to 42 after a month long investigation after the criminals stole a huge £1.2 million in July from O2 UK whereby the thieves used auto-diallers and SIM cards to call premium rate numbers at a cost of £10 a minute.
Those involved used fraudulent IDs and credit cards to buy the 1000 iPhone devices and contracts and then a middleman would sell on the SIM cards to phone scammers and ship the iPhone units abroad for a profit.
