It looks like Verizon Wireless is gearing up to retire a few smartphones over the coming months presumably to make way for new devices in the run up to the holiday season, or maybe to make was for that much speculated Verizon iPhone.
According to an article over on Engadget Mobile by Chris Ziegler, they have come by some documentation which shows the Big Red has placed numerous products with the tag “Phase Out,” and in that “Phase Out” group is the BlackBerry Storm2, Palm Pre Plus and the BlackBerry Curve 8530.
We’d already heard some time ago that Verizon was planning on giving the Palm Pre Plus the order of the boot, but it appears the Storm2 and Curve 8530 have also been given their marching orders presumable once inventory has been depleted.
Other products being phased out by the Big Red include a USB modem, the MiFi and a couple of netbooks. So anyone have any guesses at what devices Verizon Wireless will replace the phased out smartphones with?
