Apple Acquires Polar Rose Face Recognition Firm
Word had it that Apple was considering acquiring Swedish face recognition company Polar Rose, well now apparently that acquisition is not only true but has also gone ahead and Apple has acquired Polar Rose.
According to an article over on Mac Rumours by Eric Slivka and by way of a translated article over on Mac1, the acquisition of Polar Rose by Apple has been confirmed by sources for IDG News Service and Swedish news service Rapidus.
Polar Rose has developed numerous tools to do with face recognition including mobile applications and server-side and advertises their FaceCloud implementation for social networks and photo hosting as their primary product. FaceLib is a Polar Rose mobile product which is a shared library for the Android and iPhone platforms which enables face detection tracking within video.
Carl Silbersky, CEO of Polar Rose would only state, “I do not know what this is about,” and Jan Erik the company’s chief technology officer also took the same stance. While other sources confirm there is a deal although not yet quite finalised.
