The king of smartphones, the Apple iPhone has apparently hit and overtook the 1 million units sold milestone over in South Korea. The Apple iPhone has been sold in South Korea exclusively by SK Telecom since the end on June 2010.
According to an article over on Intomobile by Stefan Constantinescu, South Korea’s SK Telecom further expects to exceed the 1.2 million iPhone handsets sold mark sometime early next month and apparently the extra 20,000 sales came from pre-orders for the iPhone 4.
The iPhone rival in South Korea is of course the Samsung Galaxy S and SK Telecom’s largest competitor and South Korea’s second largest operator KT has stated that they will have shifted up to 2.5 million Samsung Galaxy S smartphones by the end of this year.
Apparently though in South Korea only one in a hundred people that own a mobile phone with an operating system which supports native apps; figure wise apparently South Korea mobile phone penetration sits at 50 million subscribers for 48 million people which should mean that every person has at least one handset.
