Find My iPhone Free for Certain iOS Products

Looks like Apple is getting generous with some of their iOS gear in the form of announcing that the previously paid for part of MobileMe services, Find My iPhone will now be a free service for certain Apple devices.

According to an article over on Slash Gear by Chris Davies, Apple has announced that Find My iPhone will be free for the Apple faithful who own the iPhone 4, the iPod Touch 4th generation and the Apple iPad.

Find My iPhone will be free for those iOS devices however service functionality will remain the same so you will need to download the free application via the App Store to your specific device and the app will enable users to login to the Apple website from any browser to locate their device.

If you have only misplaced your device with Find My iPhone you can remotely force the misplaced handset to emit a noise or even display a message so you are alerted to where the device is. Of course if you believe your device is lost or even stolen you can also remotely wipe data and lock the device.

Sounds like a good option to have to me, especially now that it’s free, shame about owners of the iPhone 3GS and previous handsets not gaining the free version though; what do you think should Apple make the service free for all iOS users?
