Apple doesn’t like people getting inside the iPhone 4 to tinker about, and they aren’t too enamoured at owners using DIY iPhone 4 conversion kits either and thus Apple is taking steps to make it a tad more difficult to do both.
According to an article over on Intomobile by Marc Flores and by way of 9to5 Mac Apple is changing the standard screws on the iPhone 4 to Torx screws when owners sent their device in for service.
Torx screws is known for being fairly difficult to unscrew thus making tampering with the iPhone 4 a more hazardous practice, and according to sources the changing of screws is a new Genius Bar practice.
Furthermore it appears that not only is Apple making the changes when units are serviced but App Advice is reporting that new iPhone 4 handsets now sport the Torx screws.
So if you are thinking of perhaps using a conversion kit don’t send your iPhone 4 for service until you have done the DIY conversion as after the screws are replaced there’s a good chance you’ll have a much harder time.
So what do our readers think, should Apple just leave the screws alone or are they right in making the change to make an owners life a tad more difficult?
