Apple Kicks Out Anti-Gay Marriage App

It appears there are some people who simply don’t believe in same sex marriage even in this day and age, and apparently an anti-gay marriage app for the iPhone somehow made it into Apple’s App Store, which caused thousands of people to sign an online petition for the offending app to be kicked out.

And according to an article over on ABC News, by Ki Mae Heussner, the offending app called Manhattan Declaration, has now been removed by Apple. The app was apparently according to its website, “a call of Christian Conscience,” which advocated “the sanctity of life, the dignity of marriage as the union of one man and one woman, and religious liberty.”

Change.org mounted the online petition asking Apple to remove the app, calling it “anti-gay” and “anti-choice,” with their website slogan saying…”Want to join the hate fest? There’s an app for that.”

Apparently the petition questioned Apple’s approval process and allowing an app into the App Store whilst deeming it free of “objectionable content,” which to be fair is a reasonable argument, and Apple should have known the app would cause a problem.

However now the app has been kicked but it does call into question just what Apple’s review people actually deem questionable content as they seem to be failing somewhat in keeping out apps that obviously go against their acceptance policy.

For their part, Apple has made a statement: “We removed the Manhattan Declaration app from the App Store because it violates our developer guidelines by being offensive to large groups of people.”

So what do our readers think; is Apple failing miserably in controlling what gets into the App Store or is there a double standard, feel free to voice your opinion in our comments area below.
