If you own a Microsoft Windows Phone 7 device and like tinkering with code, the first homebrew application for Windows Phone 7 handsets has now been released and is apparently called ChevronWP7 Custom Ringtone Manager.
According to an article over on Redmond Pie by Taimur Asad, the homebrew app enables the Windows Phone 7 user to select WMA media files which they can deploy as ringtones.
Apparently though it is a two part process which is first the user runs the desktop application on their computer and picks up to five WMA files and then they click “Build ringtone XAP” and a custom .XAP package is created. The user then deploys said package to their Windows Phone 7 device to install custom ringtones.
Ringtones must be WMA format at 48 KHz and it is recommended using “Expression Encoder 4” to transcode any MP3’s states the official site.
Obviously you will need to unlock your Windows Phone 7 smartphone first with ChevronWP7 to be able to use the new application, but if you do feel free to let us know how it goes and if you experience any problems.
