Over in Canada Android Galaxy S variant owners have been patiently awaiting the availability of Android 2.2 Froyo, which were promised this month, and now at least one of those Galaxy S variants looks to be finally getting the update.
According to an article over on Engadget Mobile by Chris Ziegler and by way of Android Central, Canadians that own the Samsung Vibrant on the Bell network can now grab the Android 2.2 Froyo update for their device.
On the downside, users have to grab the update via Samsung Kies which can be somewhat of a right pain as we have seen several complaints from readers about issues with getting Android 2.2 Froyo by way of Samsung Kies as reported (here)
Apparently Samsung CA posted the availability of the Android 2.2 Froyo update to their Twitter account, which also says that other than the Bell Vibrant, Virgin Mobile and SaskTel models can also grab the update.
Furthermore, the Samsung support page for Android 2.2 Froyo update states that the Rogers Captivate and Telus Fascinate are being tested with Samsung “working on a release for later in December 2010.”
So there you go Canadian Samsung Vibrant users can now try to grab the update, but going by apst experience with Samsung Kies whether they manage to actually get the update is another question, so feel free to shout out if you have any problems. Why can’t Samsung simply make this update over the air?
