So just how well is Microsoft’s new operating system sporting smartphones doing in the mobile space when it comes to sales? Well not too bad apparently according to an announcement from Microsoft.
According to an article over on Slash Gear by Chris Davies, Microsoft’s vice president of business and marketing for Windows Phone, Achim Berg has announced that Microsoft sold in excess of one and a half million devices sporting Windows Phone 7 in its first 6 weeks.
Basically that covers Windows Phone 7 sales from its European release on 21st of October includes the North American launch of the 8th of November and includes all sales up until the start of December.
Apparently Berg also commented “We know we have tough competition, and this is a completely new product. We’re in the race — it’s not a sprint but we are certainly gaining momentum and we’re in it for the long run.”
When asked if the figures met expectations Berg responded “Yes, and I think our expectations are realistic for a new platform. We started fresh with Windows Phone 7, and it’s a different kind of phone. Measuring for success is more long term than short term.”
So do you agree with Berg, is 1.5 million sales in 6 weeks enough to make Windows Phone 7 a success when you consider the iPhone 4 sold 1.7 million in just three days?
