Now that the new Google Nexus S is out and about it’s fairly obvious the next smartphone to receive the latest operating system from Android would be the Google Nexus One and thus owners of the Nexus One wont have too long to wait for that update.
According to an article over on Cnet by Don Reisinger, the Google Nexus team have used their Twitter account to announce that Android 2.3 Gingerbread will be delivered to the Google Nexus One smartphone as an over the air update “in the coming weeks,” and to just hang tight.
Although they haven’t given a hard and fast date for the update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread it does give a bit of officialdom that sooner rather than later the predecessor to the Google Nexus S will see the new operating system.
Once the update hits the Nexus One it will deliver such stuff as internet calling with SIP help, the ability to switch to voice mode to fix text errors, an improved user interface and more.
Obviously at some stage of the game other Android devices will gain the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update, but judging by how long its taken to update smartphones to Android 2.2 Froyo it looks like there will be quite a wait to gain this latest OS for most of the Android faithful.
