Apparently there’s a new smartphone application coming out from Ford called the MyFord app which is for use with certain Ford vehicles and is a similar app to previous vehicle apps such as the Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf.
According to an article over on Engadget by Tim Stevens, once Ford releases the MyFord app it will be for iOS, BlackBerry and Android based devices and also include an HTML5 browser so it on be used on featurephones.
Apparently the MyFord app gives the user the ability to monitor and control selected vehicle functions anywhere they and the vehicle have connectivity and also locate your vehicle via GPS and unlock its doors by using your smartphone.
There’s also a Microsoft powered charging feature that enables the user “to reduce their electricity costs by taking advantage of off-peak or reduced rates from their utility without a complicated set-up process.”
Ford Connected Services manager Ed Pleet, has said, “We’re putting battery charge and vehicle range information, along with an interactive, data-driven trip planning app right at customers’ fingertips. That’s going to get drivers involved and excited about the electric car ownership experience.”
There is one discrepancy though as the image pictured is a Samsung Focus Windows Phone 7 smartphone but apparently the MyFord app doesn’t support Windows Phone 7 which is kind of strange but the guys say they’ll have more clarification later.
