A few days ago the word was that an uncensored Playboy magazine Apple iPad app was to be allowed into the App Store, this was sparked off by a tweet published by Hugh Hefner, that article can be located (here).
However, according to an article over on Geek with a laptop, this isn’t the case as apparently Apple has made a statement that they will not be budging from their strict policy when it comes to adult material, mean no naked flesh.
Apparently even Playboy and Hefner aren’t going to make Apple change the rules and thus no uncensored Playboy magazine app for the Apple iPad will be found on the App Store, and the article says that chances are Hefner got it wrong in the first place.
On checking to find if I could locate the Apple statement I came across a TiPb article, which states that although Hugh Hefner was correct that the Playboy magazine would be coming to the Apple iPad he neglected to say that it wasn’t an app.
And according to an article over on Forbes, a Playboy spokeswoman said…” We are releasing a web-based subscription service with Bondi Digital Publishing that will give users access to every issue of Playboy both past and present. The service will be iPad compatible and will utilize iPad functions.
We also have plans to release a non-nude version of a Playboy-branded iPad app in the coming months that adheres to all of Apple’s policies and guidelines.”
So basically Hugh Hefner was correct in a roundabout way, and Apple hasn’t done a u-turn on their adult content policy, as the Playboy magazine for the Apple iPad will be web-based.
