HTC Thunderbolt Release Date: Too Much Confusion

Well now, we are all aware that basically HTC and Verizon have created a right stir up of releasing the much sought after Android 2.2 Froyo HTC Thunderbolt, shifting the expected release date from one date to another, and now apparently the latest date offered is the 10th of March.

However, as I reported earlier, Verizon is claiming that the release date for the HTC Thunderbolt hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Now according to an article over on Technology Gather, they claim that based on an image of the Best Buy internal system, the release date for the HTC Thunderbolt is the 11th of March. (Care to clarify that date Technology gather?)

Now, I’m all for giving info on when a device is likely to see release, but it would appear that the guys at Technology Gather are somewhat blind, or are suffering from a typing problem, as if you check the image which originates from Android Central you will note that it states the “10th” and NOT the “11th.” We covered this Best Buy 10th of March release date for the HTC Thunderbolt previously (here)

The aforementioned images states 03/10/11 which is the 10th day of the 3rd month of 2011, and NOT the 11th day of the 3rd month of the 2010…It just goes to show how confusion sets in when people simply can’t get something right.

As for that elusive release date for the HTC Thunderbolt, it will happen eventually, although if HTC and Verizon isn’t careful it may be too late and potential customers would have moved on to another device.

So this whole stupid article is basically a whine over the peeps at Technology Gather posting a release date as the ELEVENTH instead of the TENTH. Wow. What a waste of internet space. And THAT'S really saying somthing…

It appears that someone has gotten up on the wrong side of the bed, and most of the topics you cover are suspect at best. Join Glenn Beck if you want a war. Gather is only basing information on other sites. Read the article again. I'm not getting involved in this fracas, but I hate when another site claims to be an authoritative force behind something everyone is guessing at.

  2. Overit says:

I am very close to moving on…the waiting and all the wrong information is wearing on my nerves….and I am ready for a new phone already!!!!!

  3. Jason says:

Your last sentence says it all. I've been waiting for a VZW 4G phone for months now – and was looking forward to getting this one since I was under the impression it would come out in Feb. Now that we're in March, I may just hold out for the other 4G phones due in Q2, namely the Droid Bionic…

  4. Kevin says:

This is all a big joke. The first phone on a brand new network will have all kinds of problems anyways. I would advise anyone wanting this phone to go with a Droid X or something similar that is proven reliable.

  5. Needanewphone says:

Don't believe anything from Best Buy, it's obvious they don't know whay they are talking about. Just wait for Verizon the state the release date.

  6. TB Dreamin says:

Sadly they may be shooting themselves in the foot with this one.. although the TB sounds like a great device, I find it hard to believe they can really fix a battery issue (rumored) with a firmware fix..maybe gain a couple of hours.. but my Droid X can go 10 hours with heavy use and no charge..I WANT the TB but not if its going to be bad..we shall see…

  7. I think this is good that they are delaying it. I didn't think I could change my mind about HTC Thunderbolt. I am used to waiting now so it's all good. I am cool with keeping my $15 per month data plan and waiting for the other phones to come out.

      1. Mike says:

john's right, nobody has TRUE 4g but verizon's easily the closest, hell at&t and t-mobile literally just rebranded their 3g networks as 4g

  8. Mick says:

I'm somewhat impetuous and am not known for my patience! I envy those that are prepared to wait for possibly another diapontment, I however shall not be one of them and am scratching the Thunderbolt from my wish list as we speak!

  9. Lucy says:

Everybody's right, and I think I'd prefer that VZW wait until they can make sure the phone is PERFECT before they release it. BUT I REALLY WISH THEY'D GIVE US SOME KIND OF IDEA INSTEAD OF KEEPING OUR HOPES UP. If they KNEW there was a possibility they wouldn't be releasing by Feb. 24, they should have announced that they wouldn't be releasing by Feb. 24. I don't need a firm date. Just don't lead us on.
I don't want a company leaving me in the dark — especially when I already WANT to spend money on them. I think I'm going to Sprint…

    1. Scott says:

Verizon NEVER made a statement as to the release date for the TB. Stop blaming Verizon for this issue and blame Best Buy and every website that released the "leaked" release date. A screen shot of a Best Buy computer should not be taken as gospel. I too am anxiously awaiting my next new phone, but I will wait for Verizon to announce a date.

Go to Sprint, whose 4G service isn't LTE, (so basically its 3G+) and free up the bandwidth for the rest of us who want a great phone on a great network.

  11. The phone will be released April 1st 2011, that's right April Fools Day., because we are all fools waiting on this thing. Yeah, they F'd this up really bad. I would get the iphone but verizon's iphone isn't even up to par with AT&T's except that it doesn't drop calls. Google maps is slow as shit for example, compared to my buddys AT&T Iphone, what the f happen to the network.

  12. CHRIS SCHRODER says:

went to the verizon store, one of the good ones, and am going back on thursday, the 4th, to pick up my Thunderbolt. The manager told me he was expecting them to come in today or tomorrow. Looks like this thursday is the day.

If the battery life is to short i have 14 days to figure that out. The only reason that i am not waiting for the bionic is that by the time it comes out, unlimited 4g will be a thing of the past. If you plan on using the skype, then i would suggest getting a thunderbolt asap, as the data package "is going to change in the near future" according to the store manager. maybe bs to sell a phone, maybe not….

    1. Avi says:

"would suggest getting a thunderbolt asap, as the data package "is going to change in the near future" according to the store manager."

That's a scare tactic to get you to sign on right away. Other verizon store managers told me that its very unlikely for the plan to change.

  13. Nick says:

There is no sence in waiting for the thunderbolt to come out now, unless all the other 4 g phones will be delayed ‘ motorolla bionic here I come

  14. David Gray says:

The first rumored release date was late November 2010, then before Christmas 2010, then February 14, 2011, now March 10… all I can… fuck it! Boycotting this phone and getting a better one!

  15. TB Dreamin says:

You know the $15 a month Data plans went away? When you add this phone, its going to refresh your contract, (if you are upgrading), and you will have to purchase the $29 monthly plan. That came from Verizon themselves yesterday at the store.

  16. Bill says:

Verizon does not yet have a 4G network yet, can't anyone see that? Talk to anyone with a USB 4G Verizon modem, the computer is fast but totally different than how an Android Phone uses 4G. The Zoom will get 4G later because the network won't support it now and Motorola wanted the Zoom released. Verizon has to claim 4G because its competitors have 4G since last year, how would they look if they didn't make the 4G claim, who would want their stock? Their lie would be discovered by releasing a 4G phone. The proof is others sell 4G phones, Verizon doesn't because they can't back up their 4G claim. Get it???
They are working on it for sure, hopefully it will be released before the competitors have 5G,

    1. John S says:

you are really not educated about this at all…you need to read up on the truth before you start rumors…i have personally used our 4g systems and they are at least 10x faster than our old 3g service…you sir are very wrong…

  17. Jennx says:

does anyone at Verizon care?? I too have been anxiously waiting for the " one after your dream " phone…Let us unite together, and no one buy the Thunderbolt!! Let it go down in history that you don't put out false pretenses to the mass public and still win!!!

  18. Aldo says:

How different is the TB from the EVO4 on sprint? a better processor, more memory 8 g+ 32g card, and oh a better kick stand. And Sprint came out with the phone almost a YEAR ago. Come on! consumer for products like these have a short attention span and will move on to a better phone. I think that VZW is holding off on releasing the phone so that it can sell as many iphones as it can,or its system( 4g) will not be able to handle the demand.

  19. Sa Lopez says:

I just received a phone call from VZW customer service, I have been a customer for almost 10 yrs and the rep started by stating how grateful they were for my loyalty and that they wanted to review my plans (I have 5 phones on my account) and recomend me what could be best and offer me discounts etc. So when it came to my phone she saw that I have a crapy LG flip phone (my droid broke) and that I was ready for upgrade she tried to offer me the droid X, the incredible and the iphone. But I told her I wanted to use my upgrade discount on the Thunderbolt and she told me it HAD BEEN DELAYED TO BE RELEASED ON OR AROUND THE BEGINING OF THE SUMMER!!!!! and that's all she knew about it, she did not wanted to go on the details. But she did not push to get me to buy something else she said she understood etcetera… I ussually don't post on this forums but I have been following the release of the Thunderbolt these are just my two cents on it take it as you will…

  20. kasey says:

honestly alot of people have already moved on but in order to get the interest back htc and verizon should give us something for their screw up!! Like a $199 with2 yr agreement snce it was an orginal @249 then went to $299..or have it at $299 still with a $100 mail in rebate! jus an opinion..

  21. keith says:

i never wanted the thunderbolt, its to much like the evo. I have been waiting on it to drop so i can get the unnamed samsung. Do yall know if they are pushing all the phones back, or they just going to release them one after another?

  22. James says:

It seems Technology Gather made an error just as you did in your last sentence. It quite humorous that you blast them for a typo while you make one yourself. At least their sentences make sense. Sad…

  23. James says:

I have seen photos of a proposed HTC verizon ff camera phone since August 28, 2010. Seven months later it is still not out! Then news of verizon 4G phones for Q4 2010. Nope! Droid Bionic with dual-core, ff camera, looks like a great phone (it will make calls, won't it?)… maybe Q2 2011. I am tired of waiting! I bought a used Droid X. What a great phone! It works! It is available! I bought is w/o a contract! Besides, the ff camera on the new phones won't be very good w/o 4G. Oh, yes back to waiting… when will 4G be in my area? Maybe everywhere in 2 years? Like everything else, still waiting!

  24. presto3344 says:

I would not hold your breath for the March 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, or 10th ect… release date. I have been dead on thus far with my info and predictions. Verizon just keeps dropping the ball. The Thunderbolt is going to be a big disappointment if Verizon continues to be involved. This phone will be marked down to $150.00 before the summer even starts and everyone will have forgotten all about the Thunderbolt. The Thunderbolt is alot of rumbling and no big thunder bang or lightning to follow. What a joke so far. I am going to pass on the Thunderbolt. Also, no Skype upon release (per rumors)and no comfirmed release date. What a disappointment for a phone that had so much hype. It is not that hard if they just think of customer relations and keep people imformed. The iphone 4 (or was that the iphone 3 ha ha) was a bust and the Thunderbolt is going to be a bigger bust. I would like to see the quarterly earnings for Verizon after not delivering once again. It appears Verizon has bitten off more than they can chew right now and this is why they are not giving out any information for a release date.

Some people complaining about Verizon not having 4g and the other carriers do. Did you know that there isn't a single carrier out there that has a real 4g? It's all a myth people. They are not even close. It's just a sales gimmick to get you to buy the "4g" phones. If you don't believe me, read this article and see for yourself:

Dont get the bionic, motoblur is awful, just saying, watch the reviews on youtube of the thunderbolt nothing seems to be wrong with it so it's either related to the skype, 4g service (which i'd want to work off the bat) or apple made a deal with verizon.

  28. I have been anxiously waiting for this phone. Now as my Blackberry battery is basically useless, I am needing a new phone NOW. If this phone does not come out soon I am going to the Samsung Fascinate. I am just sick of waiting and need the new phone. I fear as you have stated, that HTC is going to lose some sales due to this constant delay.

  29. henry says:

I gave up waiting for this device…remain concerned about battery. A hot phone that only lasts 6 hours is less useful than a battle tested droid x. In 20 months they should have the links worked out. I’ll upgrade to 4g then.

Navigate to the Best Buy Web Site. Set your locale as 75070. Then navigate to products–> Verizon Wireless. Next look for the weekly ad and the Buyers Guide. Next click any image of the thunderbolt. Note the date for pricing is set to be effective between the following dates. 02/20/2011 – 03/26/2011.

Please stop the rumors and verify the phone is now available between the following dates 02/20/2011 – 03/26/2011..
