HTC Thunderbolt Doesn’t Play Nice with Skype

Back when HTC first announced their latest Android 2.2 Froyo smartphone, the device that goes on sale today, the HTC Thunderbolt, one of the handsets main features was the ability to use Skype to make video calls.

However apparently the HTC Thunderbolt doesn’t come playing nice with Skype. According to an article over on Ubergizmo, Verizon commented that Skype wouldn’t be ready by the launch of the HTC Thunderbolt, and your Android Thunderbolt won’t have Skype on it when you purchase the device.

However, according to the Ubergizmo article the HTC Thunderbolt may never see Skype as Droid-life is reporting that all content and web pages that mention Skype on both Verizon and HTC sites has been pulled.

Apparently the Droid-life guys have done some digging and it appears that Skype is being obliterated from all material without any explanation and stickers have apparently been sent out to cover up any references to Skype on marketing material.

So will the HTC Thunderbolt ever gain Skype support? One would hope so, but for now it’s looking like users won’t be playing nice on Skype anytime soon.

I have new HTC thunderbolt and overall the apps and phone are pretty cool, HOWEVER the phone's reception is terrible and we had great service before getting the 4G LTE phone. Hopefully they work the bugs out soon, we may be moving back to our previous supplier.

I downloaded the Skype mobile app (hence no video) onto the Thunderbolt and have tried using it for voice only Skype to Australia. It can only be used with WiFi and my connection was pretty good for the first 2 minutes but then degraded to the point where it echoed/reverberated so badly that I had to end the call and head for the laptop. Also my battery life has been terrible. I am lucky to get 4 hours of actual use.
