Android Gingerbread Update Available For Samsung Galaxy S: Got Yours?

Finally for owners of the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone it appears that old Sammy has started rolling out the Android Gingerbread update, albeit not to every Samsung Galaxy S apparently, but for some the wait has finally ended.

According to an article over on Pocket Now, and by way of XDA-developers, some Kies software has Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread with baseband I9000XXJVK with build number GINGERBREAD.XWJVB available to download to the handset.

Apparently reports indicate that the lucky Samsung Galaxy S users gaining Android Gingerbread update are some Nordic countries, Australia and Germany.

Being an owner of the Galaxy S, I checked and thus far I’m still on Android 2.2.1 Froyo so the update isn’t available to us in the UK, but hopefully Samsung will continue to roll out the update and it will become available in other markets in the not too distant future.

So has any of our readers been lucky enough to get updated to Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread yet? If so feel free to shout out your joy to our comments area below.

Help, this phone is driving me crazy. Anyone else having problems? Any advice welcomed. I call Att once a week. I talk to the samsung tec more than my husband !!! I
would love to have some kind of upgrade on my phone. It drops 4 out of 5 calls. The other day my call/the same pine dropped 18 times. I think my phone had a mind of it's own or is possessed. This is my 3rd phone since August. The other day it was dyslexic. It was typing in numbers backwards. Then it straightened up later. My email doesn't work. Never updates. Too many glitches !
!!! Prime example: won't let me erase these next 5 words. pos

Is your phone an att branded phone? I used to get a lot of problems too when i bought(signed contract) my phone through the networks. Now i buy them outright without the bloated software and crap thats preloaded. makes a world of difference.

I have a SIM free Galaxy S, I live in London, Kies doesn't offer me anything higher than 2.2.1. To be honest, I am so happy with 2.2.1 that I'm reluctant to upgrade. 2.2.1 on the Galaxy S is the first version of Android I've experienced with a smooth and responsive browser – even on heavy pages rendered for desktop. The browser is even another than the browser on the Nexus S. Do a search on YouTube for "Galaxy S Browser 2.2.1" and you'll see exactly what I mean. It appears that Samsung are the first company on the planet who have dealt with "Android Issue 6914".

Unfortunately, Samsung have been so successful with the Galaxy S that Apple are now trying to sue them. I hope Sammy opens up a can of whoop ass on the evil Apple empire 😉
