It appears that the chosen branding for the Nokia app store and services is no longer liked by Nokia and thus the word is Nokia will dump their Ovi brand beginning in July, although apparently it is purely a name change.
According to the guys over at Ubergizmo by way of Nokia Conversations, Nokia has decided to no longer use the Ovi brand and the services will now come under the Nokia banner and rebranded as Nokia Services.
Jerri DeVard, Nokia EVP and CMO explained, “We have made the decision to change our service branding from Ovi to Nokia. By centralizing our services identity under one brand, not two, we will reinforce the powerful master brand of Nokia and unify our brand architecture — while continuing to deliver compelling opportunities and experiences for partners and consumers alike.”
The word is all else to do with the Ovi service will be unaffected and will be purely a name change only so shouldn’t make any difference to Nokia users. Apparently new Nokia smartphones will come out with the new “Nokia Services” while existing devices will be updated.
So no real big change, but will any of our Nokia owning readers actually miss the brand Ovi?
