Samsung Galaxy S 2 US Names Verizon Function, AT&T Attain, Sprint Within
I’m not too sure why the good old US of A has to be different from the rest of the world, but apparently when the Samsung Galaxy S 2 hits the US shores the Android smartphone will be having a name change for three of the US carriers.
According to an article over on Android Central, and by way of Pocket Now, etailer Wirexgroup has outed what the Samsung Galaxy S 2 will be known as with Verizon, AT&T and Sprint.
Apparently the Verizon model of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread handset will be the Verizon Function, while the AT&T version will be the AT&T Attain and the Sprint model will be the Sprint Within, although of course this hasn’t been officially confirmed.
Not sure why the device simply couldn’t be called the Verizon Galaxy S 2, AT&T Galaxy S 2 and so on, perhaps the carriers feel that have to set themselves apart for all the rest in the world. T-Mobile isn’t on the list so perhaps they are not carrying the handset or haven’t yet decided on a suitable moniker.
Do you like this renaming of a smartphone or would you prefer a handset to be known by one name no matter which carrier it is on?

I agree, it definitely should have one name no matter what carrier. Why make it so confusing?
The names are given because of small spec differences just like the fascinate, captivate, epic, etc.
Expect certain ones to have different memory, storage, design, or processors.
The Epic needs a different name… It’s got the FFC and a slider. But it does have another name, the Galaxy S Pro/
