Samsung Smartphone and Tablet Samples To Be Handed to Apple Lawyers
You may be aware that Apple has filed a lawsuit against Samsung claiming Samsung had infringed on copyright of the look and feel of the iPhone and Apple iPad, and apparently the latest development in that lawsuit is that Sammy has been order to hand over samples of devices currently in development to Apple legal bods.
According to an article over on Unwired View, by way of PC Mag and Courthouse News, US district judge Lucy Koh believed that “Apple has demonstrated good cause for some, limited expedited discovery,” and thus has ordered Samsung to hand over the samples of smartphones and tablets to Apple lawyers.
Apparently the judge has given Samsung 30 days to hard over samples of package inserts, packaging and sample products of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 along with the Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Infuse 4G and Infuse 4G LTE.
Apparently the judge has limited those who can actually dig into Samsungs gear to “Outside Counsel Eyes Only,” which apparently means Apple’s in-house counsel and Apple employees will not be able to get their hands on the hardware.
Personally I think the whole thing is ridiculous and Apple should grow up as anyone can say another device feels and resembles their devices. Tablets are tablets, smartphones are smartphones and obviously they are going to closely resemble each other unless of course Apple believes they own the design to a rectangle design shape.
I also believe it should cut both ways, and if Apple want’s to get their hands on Samsung gear to poke around wit then Samsung should be afforded the same and Apple hand their current hardware in progress to Samsung. Otherwise pull in the reigns and get on with delivering products to customers and not acting the big I am in the legal arena.
