In the mobile tablet game there appears to be two sizes running the show, the large 10-in tablet and the smaller 7-inch tablet, and it appears that when it comes to Android there is a divide in tablet operating systems in as much as the larger tablets such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 come out to play with Android 3.1 Honeycomb while smaller tablets like the Acer Iconia A100, which has been delayed, play on Android 3.0 Honeycomb.
According to an article n Business Week by way of Gigaom, the 7-inch Acer Iconia A100 tablet is due to screen changes with Android 3.0 Honeycomb, something that may reinforce claims that some partners of Google get access to Android code earlier than others and also could mean that small tablets are not suited to the tablet centric Google platform.
The Acer Iconia A100 according to an article over on DigiTimes now has a release date of August to September, apparently due to Acer struggling with application compatibility on the smaller 7-inch display, something that will be resolved by the Android 3.1 Honeycomb update.
If the report is true it could mean that Acer have only just got access or may not have access yet to Android 3.1, which causes the speculation that perhaps Android 3.0 or 3.1 are suitable for lower resolution screens.
However Google has already announced they intend to unify the mobile Android platform across both smartphones and tablets with Ice Cream Sandwich, an area where the 7-inch tablet sits neatly in the middle so perhaps the smaller Android tablets will gain an optimised version of Ice Cream Sandwich, which is scheduled for Q4 and means that smaller tablets will have to wait.
