iPhone 5 (4S) vs iPhone 4 Specs Comparison: What If!

This specs comparison is all about “What If” what we mean is putting the Apple iPhone 4 up against the iPhone 5 (4S), we know the next Apple smartphone has not even been announced yet but this is what it could look like when released and the two handsets are put side-by-side.

This article is all about having an open mind and a little bit of fun, just go with it and see what you think. You never know our prediction may come of true, who knows.

Display

The Apple iPhone 4 has a 3.5-inch LED-backlit IPS TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16M colours (640 x 960), it also features Scratch-resistant oleophobic surface, Multi-touch input method, Three-axis gyro sensor, Accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate and Proximity sensor for auto turn-off. The iPhone 5 will hopefully have all the above but will be between 3.7 & 4-inches, will have edge-to-edge display with no home button.

Camera

The iPhone 4 has a 5MP rear camera offering 2592 x 1944 pixels, featuring autofocus, Touch focus, LED flash and geo-tagging. Comes with 720p@30fps video recording and LED video light, also comes with a front-facing camera for video call chats (video-calling over Wi-Fi only). The iPhone 5 will be similar to the iPhone 4 but with extra features such as with an 8MP camera with Omnivision OV8820 sensor, face recognition, full HD 720p video and NFC technology.

Memory

The Apple iPhone 4 only goes up to 32GB storage max, and does not have an SD card slot. However, you can get the iPhone 4 in either 16GB or 32GB capacities. The iPhone 5 will come in 16 — 32 and 64GB version, and would be nice to see an SD card slot as well.

Processor

The iPhone 4 is fitted with a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, PowerVR SGX535GPU, Apple A4 chipset, and the iPhone 5 will feature 1.2GHz Dual Core processor, more speed is what it needs.

Battery Life

The iPhone 4 has a Li-Po 1420mAh battery offering up to 300 standby hours using 2G and up to 300 standby hours using 3G, you will get up to 14 talk time hours using 2G and up to 7 hours talk time using 3G. The iPhone 5 battery life will be superior, giving at least 14 hours using 3G and 7 hours using 4G.

Overall Summary

The iPhone 5 will top the iPhone 4; there is no doubting that. The iPhone 5 is faster with the 1.2GHz dual core processor, which makes the iPhone 5 more powerful. The iPhone 5 will have a better antenna giving better signal than the iPhone 4, battery life on the iPhone 5 will last a lot longer on a full charge. Seeing as the camera on the iPhone 5 has gone up to 8MP with face recognition, the iPhone 4 lags behind in this category as well.

Please remember the above is pure speculation until we get full official confirmation via Apple, but it is good to wonder. Can you add any more specs to the iPhone 5 to make it far superior than the iPhone 4?
