Sony Ericsson looks to be gearing up to deliver NFC capability with their Android smartphone as they have now selected NXP Semiconductors to provide Near Field Communication technology for said Sony Ericsson Android based handsets to further enhance customer mobile experience.
With the NFC technology in Sony Ericsson Android devices users will be able to make mobile transaction via simple touch gestures and will be able to connect to a point of sale terminal, make purchases, or location based promotional tag via their NFC capable device.
CTO for Sony Ericsson, Jan Uddenfeldt says, “Building on Sony Ericsson’s leadership in Android and mobile gaming, the integration of near field communication into our Android-based Xperiaâ„¢ portfolio is another step in delivering the most entertaining smartphones.”
Whilst the president and CEO of NXP Semiconductors, Rick Clemmer said, “This latest move from Sony Ericsson is another proof point of the strong momentum and potential of NFC.”
NXP delivers complete embedded and secure NFC solutions and has announced that their Near Field Communication software is open source on Android and enables the Google Wallet app, and Sony Ericsson will use the NXP pn65 NFC solution for their android-based smartphones.
