It appears that BlackBerry maker Research In Motion isn’t doing too well, and it appears that as a result of poor quarterly results and shares dropping roughly 27 percent since RIM revealed the figures, they have begun handing out layoff notices to their employees.
According to the guys over at the Boy Genius Report by way of Reuters, Canadian newspaper the Waterloo Region Record reported the story; however it is unclear just how many RIM employees have been let go.
During an earnings call Research In Motion’s Co-CEOs confirmed that the BlackBerry firm would reduce its workforce but didn’t give any timeframe, and also stated that several BlackBerry devices have been delayed.
The BlackBerry maker has tried to keep pace with rivals such as Apple and others in the smartphone and tablet arenas but after numerous mishaps RIM’s stock has fallen in excess of 50 percent this year.
Apparently there is word going round that as many as 200 RIM employees have lost their jobs, but there is no conformation as to whether that figure is true or not.
