For those that own the Motorola Droid 2 Global smartphone that have been patiently awaiting the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update to hit their device, the update was expected soon after the launch of the Motorola Droid 3; however it seems that Gingerbread for the Droid 2 Global may have possibly been delayed.
According to the guys over at Softpedia, although popular speculation is that the Android operating system update would follow the release of Verizon’s latest Droid device, actions taken by the Big Red point towards a possible delay in pushing up the update.
There was a PDF file on Verizon’s website letting everyone know of the enhancements that the Android Gingerbread update would deliver to the Droid 2 Global, but apparently that PDF file has now vanished from sight and has apparently been replaced by an older file that touts another software for the device.
Thus it is assumed that Verizon has taken down the Android 2.3 Gingerbread PDF file because it isn’t ready to deploy to the Motorola Droid 2 Global yet, which leaves everyone wondering just when Motorola and Verizon will actually get it together and release said update.
According to the article, the word is Motorola has had some problems with the Gingerbread update for Droid handsets, which was the main reason they delayed the release in the first place, but is apparently continuing to work on the issues on “other Droid handsets first,” and as soon as a solution is found they will look at the Motorola Droid 2 Global update once again.
Of course all this is supposition as neither Motorola nor Verizon has confirmed that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Motorola Droid 2 Global has been officially delayed, but then again they haven’t made any official announcement as to when the Gingerbread update would be released either.
At least Motorola Droid 2 Global users will be able to grab the Android Gingerbread update when it finally becomes available without bricking their handset, something which can’t be said for Samsung Gingerbread updates, which I have experience recently and reported on (here).
However, having said that, no one really likes having to wait ages to get the latest operating system on their handset especially when others already have it, but as they say, patience is a virtue, so be patient and your Droid 2 Global will eventually gain that update.
