Phones Review Quickie: As most are aware Near Field Communication (NFC) isn’t exactly new technology as it has been around for quite some time, although the mobile space seems to have been somewhat slow in adopting the technology, but that is now quickly being rectified, and the latest bit of news concerning NFC is that the tech has been adopted by the Museum of London.
According to the guys over at Ubergizmo by way of Toms Hardware, the London Museum and smartphone maker Nokia have partnered to enable the public with NFC equipped smartphones to use the tech in union with tags located around the museum to deliver info on the exhibits.
According to the marketing manager of the Museum of London, Vicky Lee, “NFC Technology has the potential to change how we interact with our visitors. By simply touching tags located throughout both our venues, visitors can delve deeper into London’s story in an immediate and engaging way, plus keep in touch with us by following the museum online.”
Have to say that making more use of NFC other than for mobile payments has got to be a step in the right direction, and lets face it if the technology is available why not use it, and I’m sure using their NFC smartphone to learn more about exhibits when visiting a museum will be a boon to museum goers.
Although I must make mention that on reading the Ubergizmo article I was thrown somewhat by the image they opted to use, as the picture is actually the British Museum and not the Museum of London, so I had to do a little checking first, so just a suggestion to perhaps check which picture you choose it the right one first guys.
