Phones Review Quickie: HTC Thunderbolt smartphone users have been sitting waiting for the new Android 2.3 Gingerbread release, and thanks to colleague James he reported that it is now available for download.
HTC Thunderbolt users have been patiently waiting for the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update; the new build number 2.07.605.0 has now been released but must warn you this is NOT the final build version.
It may be the official build from HTC but it is NOT the official final Verizon build, are you really ticked off with Android 2.2 Froyo and the Gingerbread love is what you need?
Here is how to get Gingerbread onto your Thunderbolt, we here at PHONES REVIEW are NOT responsible at all if you try this out.
For the Full Untouched RUU:
1. Download and rename to PG05IMG.zip
2. Place on the root of your SD card
3. Reboot into hboot (White turned off hold power + volume down)
4. When asked if you want to update hit volume up
For the Rooted Versions:
1. Download and copy to anywhere on your sdcard
2. Wipe the phone completely (Data, Cache and Dalvik)
3. Flash how you would with any other rom in recovery
Just so you know, the HTC Incredible is getting the GIngerbread touch of love as well, more information below.
No official word has been announced of Thunderbolt OTA roll out, but we will keep you posted. Gingerbread on the Incredible features will include: MMS Messages send correctly, play audio files from a message, Internet connections via Bluetooth now enabled, Send Vcard through SMS, VZ Navigator now operates over Wi-Fi, Change songs in the Music widget by tapping the forward button and Camera functions successfully without inserting SD card, for more information please visit Android Police.
