Phones Review Quickie: It appears that most Android tablet makers seem to have some difficulty when pushing out an update to their devices just lately, as you may know if you are an owner of the Acer Iconia Tab A500 slate, the tablet was due to receive the Android 3.2 Honeycomb update on the 25th of this month, but unfortunately never materialised.
According to the guys over Liliputing, the slate now has a new date scheduled for the Honeycomb update, and that Acer has given reason as to why the update was delayed. Apparently they are working to resolve some issues with GPS settings.
The android tablet maker has apparently now posted the new update date to the Acer Malaysia Facebook page, and the Android 3.2 Honeycomb update is now scheduled to roll out to the Acer Iconia A500 as of the 10th of September.
Here’s what the page says…” Dear fans, we sincerely apologize for the delayed release of the 3.2 update for Acer Iconia Tab A500. We’ve just received news today that there have been some issues with the GPS settings therefore the 3.2 update will be rescheduled to 10th of September. We will update again if earlier, we hope to provide all our end users a stable and problem-free OS. Thanks for your continuous support and understanding.”
Android 3.2 Honeycomb isn’t a massive update from Android 3.1 Honeycomb and basically the main advantage of Android 3.2 is that it makes a better job of displaying applications that have been designed for smartphones on the tablet’s display, whilst most other changes are under the hood.
Obviously Acer decided it was better to delay the roll out of the update rather than push it out prematurely with any bugs, which is a good thing so the wait is probably for the best.
So there you have it a quickie just letting those who own an Acer Iconia A500 tablet to expect Android 3.2 Honeycomb to come your way as of the 10th of next month.
