Phones Review Quickie: Samsung is expanding the range of devices that use their own operating system and has unveil three new Bada smartphones, the Samsung Wave 3, Samsung Wave M and the Samsung Wave Y handsets, apparently to reduce the companies dependency on the Android platform.
According to the guys over at Apple Insider, Reuters reports that Samsung unveiled the three new smartphones today, and is apparently looking to pull all Samsung products under their own operating system Bada, including smartphones, computers, printers, online Samsung apps, and TV’s.
So here’s what is known of the three new devices so far…The Samsung Wave 3 offers a 4-inch AMOLED touch screen, a “full metal” body and a 5 megapixel camera. The Samsung Wave M offers a 3.65-inch touch screen with an 832 MHz processor, and the Samsung Wave Y is an entry level handset offering a 3.2-inch display and is set to go on sale sometime in October.
Obviously all three Wave handsets will run the Bada 2.0 operating system along with such features as direct WiFi sharing, vice recognition and NFC capability, and allows access to roughly 13,000 Samsung apps.
And that’s about all we know on the three new Samsung Wave smartphones at the moment. Samsung is apparently expanding their Bada range of devices in the low-end segment and thus diversify their handset line up that is heavily based on Android.
Personally I’m not too sure why old Sammy would want to move away from the Android platform on any of their devices, but I guess it has something to do with Apple continually biting at their heels; more as and when we hear.
