As you probably know, the current smartphone to beat in the mobile space is of course the iPhone, Apple’s handset has been at the top of the smartphone game for years, and their latest, the iPhone 5 is expected to be revealed on October 4th, but come next year the iPhone may have a real challenger on its heals.
An iPhone challenger that comes from none other than bitter rival and currently courtroom enemy, Samsung. According to an article over on Ubergizmo, by way of Careace, it has now been confirmed that Samsung will deliver the Samsung Galaxy Skin sometime in 2012.
A device that Apple certainly wouldn’t be able to challenge in the courts over design and would probably make the iPhone 5 and even iPhone 6 look like something out of the prehistoric age.
The Samsung Galaxy Skin features material called “graphene” for its AMOLED display, a substance that has been touted as “the miracle material,” that can make displays flexible and will be ready by the time the Samsung Galaxy Skin comes out.
This new material is expected to replace glass displays found in most smartphones and of soft, flexible, and bendable and doesn’t suffer damage to image quality but can still take substantial blows. According to the Ubergizmo guys though, the Samsung Galaxy Skin will still be as thick as the Samsung Galaxy S II however once the new display is unfolded it will be twice the length.
Spec wise the Samsung Galaxy Skin is said to have a 4-inch flexible AMOLED touch screen, 8 megapixel rear facing camera, VGA front facing camera, 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, a 1500mAh battery, 16GB and 32GB versions and measures 221 x 67 x 8mm.
Just so you can see the flexible display in action we have embedded a video for your viewing pleasure below that Intomobile took back at CES 2011…enjoy.
