The new iOS 5 has been released with many customers enjoying it right now, and there are many iPhone users that use unlock tools. So it is that time to talk about the Gevey SIM Unlock for iOS 5, and some hard choices.

Many Gevey SIM unlock users are wondering if it is safe to use Apple’s latest operating system, we are in the same boat as iDB and do not use the Gevey SIM unlock, so we cannot really answer that for you.

But it has been said that it will work if you preserve your baseband, you can preserve your baseband if you use Sn0wBreeze or RedSn0w, which we reported on yesterday. By using either of these jailbreaks you can still use the Gevey SIM unlock, obviously you do this at your own risk.

Just in case you do not use the Gevey SIM unlock, but you do use the UltraSn0w tool this applies to you as well, we have some good news about the new UltraSn0w, which has released today. More news coming today, if you have any questions or answers please head on down to the commenting area.

    Can you please give me step on how I need to unlock my iPhone to iOS 5. I have iPhone 4 on Cincinnati bell and I’m using the gevey sim 3G. I watched the video above, but it didn’t really help. So if someone can please help me that would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

      If your baseband is still 4.10.1 you can downgrade to 4.3.5 and your Gevey Sim Card will work. Works fine for me. The problem is that you can’t upgrade to iOS 5 yet as there is no effective way of keeping your baseband and upgrading to 5. I’ve tried lots of tutorials with custom IPSW via Redsn0w but doesn’t work as the iTunes gets error for “not eligible device”.

        You’re incorrect. I upgraded from 4.3.5 to ios5 using redsn0w and kept my 4.10 baseband. I did it and my gevey is working on T-Mobile

        You should google that error “not eligible device”. Apple tells you what to do. I had it and I got passed it.

    I did this and it didn’t work for me!
    I preserved my baseband and i used my gevey and nothing works! I’m really sad because even  this video didn’t help, it does the same thing as him but it just keeps saying “searching” no matter how many times i try 🙁 🙁 🙁

    this video is showing the Gevey Sims unlocking the IOS 5 but it’s on a IPhone that’s been factory unlocked lol. I talked to some of these guys before IOS 5 Beta 2 was released. They replied they had to wait until IOS 5GM was released before they could test new sims?? Ok my thing is why don’t they have a Dev Acc. and getting their sims together like the rest of us are doing to get the apps in the market….. Gevey guys tighten up

      4.3.5 ispw . i got mine from iClarified.  Restor to 4.3.5 and it will
      bring your iP4 back to 4.3.5 AND it will change baseband to 4.10.08 !!!
      Now you can use your gevey.

      I was in rhe same as you. Quickly before Apple stops signing 4.3.5 get iTunes 10.4 and get an 4.3.5 ispw . i got mine from iClarified.  Restor to 4.3.5 and it will bring your iP4 back to 4.3.5 AND it will change baseband to 4.10.08 !!! Now you can use your gevey.

      Problem I’m having is you can’t jailbreak because it’s a tethered JB so when you try to reboot with the gevey it’s not wanting to reboot. It could be something I’m doing wrong but at least I resolved the baseband problem but act quick !!

        I stand corrected. Although the instructions say to turn off the phone THEN install the gevey since I didn’t have a choice I went ahead an installed the gevey with the iPhone on. After a few minutes I got the ACCEPT/Decline page and from there it went as per he instructions.

        I USED TO HAVE an iP4 on ios5 with 4.11 and now I have a JB’d ios5 with 4.10 on T-Mobile.

          its still not too late late to downgrade back to 4.3.5. i updated to ios5 without thinking. downgraded back so i got the 4.10.1 bb back then preserved it updated back to ios5 with redsnow and now it works fine with my gevey sim.

            Remove iTunes 10.5 and install iTunes 10.4 or older
            After install boot your phone in DFU mode
            Open iTunes and restore iOS 4.3.5
            Enjoy 
            it work for me

            I have gevey sim on my iphone 4 and updated to ios 5 from 4.3.5 without looking for the procedure. Now am stuck as the firmware also has got updated.

            Can you let me know the steps that you performed to restore it back to ios 4.3.5 and firmware 4.10.

            That will be a great help and save my day !!!

        I did it too but after a while it the data signal stops broadcasting & refuses to come back! I had to downgrade back to 4.3.5 and the personal hotspot option dissapears in ios 5!! I think there still are bugs in this ios!!!

      insert AT&T or other sim to which your phone is locked and then connect your iphone to Itunes and it will be activated and then you insert Gevey Sim

    I wonder if anyone can help me. I have done something so stupid and now I cant use my iphone 4!Basically I use the gevey sim to unlock my iphone 4, but yesterday I upgraded from 4.3.3 to ios5 through itunes and now my gevey sim doesnt work on the ios5.I have tried to downgrade back to 4.3.3 using ipsw but I keep getting an error on itunes – I have also looked at how to solve this error and have tried so many ways but still wont work!!
    Please someone tell me what I can do!

      i think that the only way you can downgrade it is to ios 4.3.5 which apple was still signing off on as of yesterday. 

      there are two ways you can downgrade: 1-if you’ve saved your blobs on Cydia’s Server OR if apple is still signing off on that IOS. 

      For some reason, apple seems to be still signing off on 4.3.5. hope it works for you!

        I have also done the stupid thing of upgrading from ios 4.3.5 to ios 5 without retaining the firmware. Now am stuck.

        As per the instruction when I reinstalled itunes 10.4 and connected the iphone, it was giving an error that u need higher version of itunes to connect the phone.

        Also I believe that Apple has stopped signing off on 4.3.5 since 17th Oct. Under these circumstances is there any way that I could review my iphone with 4.3.5…… Need help

    Im wondering how you are able to reboot your phone without tethering, is yours not jailbroken? is jailbreaking not necessary in order to unlock with the gevey? what type of gevey (ultra, etc..) are you using? I updated my iphone 4 to ios 5 with preserved 4.10.01. Please help, thanks!

    so here is mine questio I have ios5 on iphone 4 with preserved baseband 3.10.01 but i Cant unlock it with gevey when i insert gevey it ask me to activate it again and when i pull out gevey sim tray it acctivate himself.
    so what with that no one has that problem except me !!

    how to activate it once and for all… i used original tmobil sim for activation.

    it can unlock WITH AT&T SIM CARD.,/ and then u can use any sim card .,/. 
    Bcz last i HAd updated my idevic and i stuck on bypas in ios 5 im using iphone 4./, n then i went to a mobile softwere market and he put AT&T sim card on my device and its wrked then put my sim with gevey sim and follw the method of gevey sim and i was succes/.,/.

      No need to purchase new Gevey sim. Shopkeeper who unlocks may fool you saying you need to buy new gevey. What you can do is , look into very first comment on this post and follow step only if you have mac machine(most of us do not have it). Or you can take to unlocking guy and ask him to do the same steps. I got it done here in Bangalore. The thing is iOS5 have ability to make your gevey not working but redsn0w jailbreak have ability to pass this hurdle. So, don’t be panic and you have option.         So does it mean, if I didn’t preserve my baseband, this tutorial is useless? There is nothing I can do anymore but wait for the new gevey sim? I have a US iphone4 and I’m in NZ and I accidentally upgrade mine to iOS5. This is frustrating.

          I have the same problem as you. I regretted performing stock ipsw without reading further on iPhone unlock. Now I end up with a new baseband that are not compatible with gevey sim,which means my iPhone will not have service from other carrier other than those specify by Apple.

    I updated my Iphone 4 from 4.3.5 to IOS 5 and I have it working with the GEVEY Card, But you have to custumized the IOS 5 ISPW first.

    1. Download the latest redsn0w 0,9,9b7  (is only available for MAC)
    2. Download IOS 5
    3. Open redsn0w
    4. Go to Extra
    5. Custom ISPW with IOS 5
    6 After is finished go and put your iPhone on PWN DFU with redsn0w
    7 open itunes, should tell you are on recovery mode, hold shift (windows) or option (Mac), and point to the ISPW,  MAKE SURE YOU SELECT THE CUSTOM ISPW , SHOULD START WITH B B
    8. After restore, activate with your AT&t sim card
    9  then insert your Gevey card, be advise that after you accept , you need to wait 15 seconds, you should get “no sim” with IOS 5 you will not get the one bar like b4,
    10 dial 112, hang up after 2 second
    11 go to airplane mode
    12, after you get no sim card message ( about 1 to 2 minutes),
    13  take it of airplane mode, press ok to the error message, and you should be good to go.

        1. SELECT  ISPW with IOS 5
        2. SELECT EXPERT MODE
        3. CLICK ON HACTIVATED
        4. BUILD CUSTOM ISPW
        THEN UPDATE IT THROUGH ITUNES 10.5
        NOW YOUR WILL BE ACTIVATED WITHOUT AT&T SIM

    I updated (stupidly) to IOS 5, I was using a Gevey sim. I am now on firmware 4.11.08 and of course it doesnt work. My itunes was also updated.

      Ok after you go to phone under settings and select sim applications you pick instructions the hit accept. Wait 15 seconds now it won’t show the 1 bar but it will still say invalid sim or no service , just continue with dialing 112. And the regular procedure it should work.

    Dumb as I was, I updated my Swedish locked iPhone (been using a gevey card here in UK) with the mindset that it would be as it always have been. No trouble. 

    Of course I didn’t preserve my base bands. Is there anyway that I can go back to iPhone 4.3.3? Or do I have to wait until they release a new jailbreak/gevey sim?

      just check if ur baseband is compatible wid the gevey, ie eithe 1.59.0 or 3.10.1 – 4.10.1.

    The above methods is working, and i’ve already unlocked an iphone 4 on ios 5 by preserving the baseband on 4.10.01. U have to create a custom ios 5 firmware. If u own a official sim, just create a no Jailbreak custom ios 5. if not then u have to create a pre- hacktivated firmware. But i have tried several times to unlock with gevey sim before success.

    first u need to understand how Geyvey work: it only works w/ bb 4.10.01 and any bb under that.  So when you do update to ios5 u need to preserve bb then follow as video above.
    For ones, by accident using redsnow jb by default set up (or do not know how to keep old bb) that make bb come to 4.11.08, still have only 1 way to do, but need to do it now otherwise u have no chance to do it again: why???

    Since Apple did not delete ios 4.3.3 from its server yet, so install ios 4.3.3 back to your phone now (apple will not support 4.3.3 anymore soon). How? just DL ios4.3.3 IPSW firmware, set ur phone DFU mode, control shift + restore from itune and browse to 4.3.3 just dl. After done ur phone now like an unlock/unjailbreak using ATT but main thing is it has bb back to 4.10.01.

    Now you can update to ios 5.0.1 again, but make sure preserve ur bb.  Recommand using snowbree if u do not know how to make custom ipsw from redsow… follow as video above u will have an iphone 4 ios 5.0.1 unlock by geyvey sim plus jailbreak as well

      no mate, I have tried doing that. but apple have stopped signing with ios 4.3.3 firmware. so if the phone is upgraded to ios 5.0.1 and baseband is 4.11.08 there is no way out there. unless developers do more R&D on new Gevey sim…

    PLEASE HELP! 
    I have the iphone 4 3.10.01 and tried updating while PBB with sn0wbreeze but instead, it locked me out. itunes detected my device as a new one… I tried using TU to downgrade my firmware but it didn’t work. Now instead of “emergency call” on my connect to itunes device, I just have the connect to itunes picture. no option. Please help me. Don’t just read this.
