Yes folks the raging battle to ban each others devices between Apple and Samsung around the globe continues, this time with news that old Sammy has now filed suits in both Australia and Japan to get Apple’s latest iOS smartphone, the iPhone 4S banned from being sold.
According to an article over on Bloomberg, along with filing to ban the iPhone 4S, Samsung is also seeking an injunction against the sales of the iPhone 4 and Apple iPad 2 in Japan and has cited 3 telecommunications technologies in the Aussie suit and in Japan cites 1 telecommunication and 3 user interface patents.
No doubt if you have been following this lengthy patent dispute between the two mobile space giants you will know that last week Apple was successful in obtaining a sales block of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia.
Daewoo Securities Co, analyst James Song, based in Seoul says, “The legal battle is lasting longer and is more extensive than originally expected. This kind of legal saga isn’t good for both companies given their business relationship. The parties will eventually seek to resolve the issue.”
In a statement Samsung took the same stance as previous, saying, “Apple has continued to violate our patent rights and free ride on our technology. We will no longer stand idly by and will steadfastly protect our intellectual property.”
Samsung’s latest strikes back at Apple were filed in the Tokyo District Court and in the New South Wales Registry. Samsung previously filed for a ban of the iPhone 4S in both France and Italy.
The other day in the United States Judge Lucy Koh stated that although Samsung does infringe on Apple patents, Apple would need to show that their patents are valid under law.
Whether Samsung will be successful in their legal wrangling to get the iPhone 4S banned remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, there seems to be a long way to go before these two stop throwing money at the lawyers and decide to get round the tablet to resolve the matter.
