Okay, I know the iPhone 4S looks exactly the same as its predecessor but there’s no need to send the iOS smartphone as far away as possible, only joking iOS fans, but it appears that sending smartphones up to the edge of this planet’s atmosphere is the norm these days, and the iPhone 4S now joins those that have boldly gone before.

What we have for your viewing pleasure below is a video of not one but two iPhone 4S handsets being sent aloft via a weather balloon with one iPhone 4S snapping pictures while the other caught video and then waited for the iOS smartphones to tumble back to terra firma.

The iPhone 4S in Space video footage comes our way courtesy of the guys over at iDownload Blog and by way of the FinalCutKing YouTube page and lasts just over two and a half minutes from setting up to launch and then retrieving the handsets when they fell back to Earth.

Whilst up there the iPhone 4S does manage to deliver some very spectacular shots of the planet’s atmosphere, a view that not many will get to see in real life, so it’s well worth the look.
