Samsung to deliver flexi-display phones and tablets in 2012
Looks like old Samsung will be making it somewhat difficult for Apple to pull the look and feel card on their devices come next year, as Samsung has now reiterated that their flexible display toting smartphones will hit the mobile arena next year.
According to an article over on Slash Gear by way of PC World, after the flexible display smartphones a twistable tablet will also follow along with other devices.
During Samsungs financial call, Robert Yi, a Sammy spokesperson said, “The flexible display, we are looking to introduce sometime in 2012, hopefully the earlier part,” and that “The application probably will start from the handset side.”
Apparently at this point it is somewhat unclear what format the flexible display smartphones will appear in, but the Slash Gear guys speculate that the clamshell form factor is a likely candidate as this would allow Samsung to fit a larger display into a small form factor.
Last month we reported on a device called the Samsung Galaxy Skin, a smartphone that uses a material called “graphene” for the AMOLED display, so perhaps the Samsung Galaxy Skin will be the first flexible display smartphone coming from the Sammy camp sometime next year.
One thing is for sure, when Samsung delivers these new devices with a flexible display and presumably Android, Apple will have to go some way to make their next generation iPhone as attractive a prospect to the mobile space, otherwise they may see some of the iOS faithful actually turn from iOS to Android.
