As you know, Nokia recently announced their first Windows Phone handsets the Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 710, and as Nokia wants their first Windows Phone devices to take off Nokia is offering a free gift to Lumia smartphone users, by a pilot global project that had the Finnish company sponsoring free WiFi for Lumia device users in London.
According to an article over on Ubergizmo by way of Nokia Conversations, the free WiFi service is available as of right now up until the end of the year and will enable Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 owners to access the Internet right out of the box.
Apparently there are 26 hotspots across the Smoke (yes call me old fashioned, but I still refer to the UK capital as the Smoke), and those hotspots are found in popular areas such as Oxford Street, and once people pick up the Nokia Windows Phone of their choice on the 16th of this month will immediately be able to take advantage of the free WiFi.
It’s fairy simple to set up the free WiFi on the Lumia handsets, apparently all it takes is one touch to select the free WiFi from the Lumia settings page and you are up and running and good to go.
The head of marketing for Nokia UK, John Nichols says, “Nokia believes you can upgrade everyday moments to make them amazing. Providing free Wi-Fi access to London commuters and visitors does just that. On-the-go access has become an indispensable part of modern life. From tourists finding their way around the capital, to commuters updating Facebook or browsing on the move, we all depend on mobile to share our everyday experiences and enhance our lives. Nokia is proud to sponsor this pilot which we hope will connect people even more easily than before.”
Nokia has partnered Spectrum Interactive, an independent WiFi provider to deliver the service and provide data to determine optimum bandwidth an locations to best meet customer demand.
