Siri for iPhone 4 and iPad 2 being tested by Apple

If you are one of the iOS faithful you’ll know that currently Apple’s voice assistant Siri is for the iPhone 4S only albeit hackers attempting to port Siri to other iOS devices, but getting Siri on other devices such as the iPhone 4 and Apple iPad 2 might not be left to the hacking community as word is Apple is looking at the same.

According to an article over on Ubergizmo the guys over at Jailbreak Nation have gained word from a “source close to Apple,” that Apple is testing the voice assistant on other devices, namely the iPhone 4, but Ubergizmo also suggest possibly the Apple iPad 2, which seems plausible as the quote is “other devices.”

The word is Apple has given access to a special software build to their employees that enable Siri on older iOS devices and if the testing proves fruitful that we could eventually see Siri some to pre-iPhone 4S devices.

IOS hackers are already hard at work attempting to port Siri to other devices but if Apple can pull it off then those hackers could well be just wasting their time, as an official port from Apple should be far better than any hack right?

However, as Siri is one of the very few features that actually distinguish the iPhone 4S from previous iPhone handsets, one would have thought that Apple would have wanted the voice assistant confined to the 4S but this doesn’t appear to be the case if the rumour is true.

According to the Jailbreak Nation article, the unnamed source says Apple has been restoring employees to stock software and doesn’t want it used in public, which the guys say could mean the iOS faithful just might see a release soon.

So do you think Apple delivering Siri to the iPhone 4 and possibly the Apple iPad 2 is a good idea or do you feel that allowing Siri on older iOS devices will detract from purchasing the iPhone 4S?

Win for hackers, Apple will more than likely release the update and charge all iPhone 4 users something like $29.99 for Siri – that way they can suck whatever revenue out of it they can. If they dont, it will find its way onto the internet for free and Apple will lose millions

I feel like apple will wait awhile so that people will by the 4s for siri, than in a few months when sales for the 4s slow down, they’ll release a port for older devices at a small cost. It’s all about the money!

I think it would be a good idea ,while Siri is still in beta would let a lot of folks happy. Then when iPhone 5 ~ iPad 3 are released with a refined Siri all fanboys would flock like crazy! golfman2k3

  4. I would think since the iPad 2 has similar “guts” to the 4S it would be a no brainer. Apple know what they are doing they are going to suck all the money they can out of the new 4S buyers, then they MIGHT release it for other devices

I think apple will keep Siri exclusive for the 4S until sales begin to slow down for the 4S once the 4S isnt hot in the market apple will bring Siri to the iPhone 4 for a small fee of $10-$30 lots of people own the 4 and a lot people will pay to get Siri on there 4 apple is probably thinking this and do you think there actually gonna say no to millions of dollars on something they could do for free? Apple is just in it for the money Siri doesnt need the A5 chip there just saying that so you could go buy the 4S when hackers have sucsessfully ported Siri to the 4 sooner or later you’ll get Siri on the 4 for $$$

apple like any other company is a business, so why should they give up on an opportunity to capitalise on income. bear in mind that a lot of devices get hacked and apple loses significant amounts of money on illegal apps so they have to try and earn back where ever they can! as long as they make good products and people are willing to pay for those products, then why not!
